PFI Freediver Instructor Trainer
Tim was born and raised in Litchfield, MN, which is about as far from the ocean as you can get. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a Nuclear Machinist Mate in the submarine force. It is through the Navy where he finally discovered the ocean and scuba diving while serving on the islands of Oahu and Guam.
During his early years in Guam, Tim spent most of his free time progressing through scuba training, eventually becoming a scuba instructor. It was not until he heard someone talking about the inner peace and tranquility found while freediving that he thought “I need some of that”. After several months and a beginner freediving class, Tim found himself describing freediving as “competitive relaxation”. He quickly put his new freediving skills to good use through spearfishing and photography, giving him an excuse to be in the water.
Moving back to Oahu, Tim sought to improve his freediving skills, expanding his knowledge and abilities through the PFI Intermediate Freediver and Advanced Freediver courses. PFI’s commitment to safety and their building block approach to skills aligned with the leadership skills the Navy had instilled in him, making Tim quickly realize his desire to be a part of the PFI organization as a freediving instructor.
Having retired from the Navy, Tim's primary focus is Freediving, particularly Freediver Instructor training. When not freediving or spearfishing, Tim can be found sailing, teaching scuba, taking photos while closed-circuit rebreather diving, or cooking.
PFI Freediver Instructor
The product of a family of ocean lovers and SCUBA divers, Willow developed her love for the blue at a very early age. By the age of twelve she had begun SCUBA diving with her father and uncles while exploring dive sites on both coasts of the United States. While SCUBA diving offered Willow fantastic opportunities to experience the wonders of the Ocean, she was drawn to the peaceful, uninhibited experience that snorkeling provided. Slowly snorkeling turned into “advanced snorkeling” as Willow pushed her personal limits further and further as she dove to deeper depths or extended her stay within the quiet serenity the ocean offered. As she looked to push beyond her advanced snorkeling, she discovered the sport of freediving and her love for the Ocean was quickly stoked into an all-consuming passion. Pursuing her passion, Willow made the move to Hawaii and now spends virtually all of her time freediving or teaching others to freedive safely.
While not actively teaching, you can find Willow recreationally diving on various sides of the island— be it spearfishing, line diving, or exploring the various reef systems and wrecks of the island.
PFI offers multifaceted educational Freediving and Breath-Hold Survival courses targeted at snorkelers, freedivers, spearfishers, surfers, special operations teams and rescue teams. Because individuals with different experience levels and different interests require different training, PFI offers a wide variety of course levels.
U.S. Special Forces, Red Bull extreme athletes, big wave surfers, Tom Cruise, David Blaine, Margot Robbie, and James Cameron…what do they all have in common? When they needed the world’s top freediving instruction they made one call–to Kirk Krack, founder of PFI.
Since our formation in 2000, PFI instructors have taught more than 10,000 people just like you to freedive safer, longer, and deeper. What We Believe In
We believe in quality over quantity. Grabbing the biggest market share of the industry has never interested us. That’s why our instructor certifications are uncompromising and our rigorous safety standards and protocols continue to evolve with one thing in mind: your well-being. When you feel safe in the water, you’ll be blown away by what you can achieve. Taking a course with us means a PFI Instructor will be within 15ft/5m of you on every single dive. When you come to the surface, you’ll be coached through your recovery with the calm, relaxed, confident state of mind that our instructors convey throughout all of their teachings. The PFI dive mindset gets results. PFI-trained divers have set 23 world records and dozens of national records. But freediving is more than competition—it’s a journey inward to see what you’re made of…to discover the potential inside yourself and infuse it into your whole life, both in and out of the water.

Technical Diving International was one of the first agencies of its kind. It’s focus was and still is on providing training materials and education for specialized diving situations ranging from Nitrox to Closed Circuit Rebreathers, as well as for overhead environments such as caves and wrecks.
What is Technical DivingTechnical Diving International (TDI) distinguishes a sport dive from a technical dive as any dive involving decompression, additional cylinders, alternative breathing gases, rebreathers, or overhead environments such as wrecks, caves or mines. This definition does not define a strong line between the semantical differences of “recreational” and “technical” as both styles of diving are recreational (for fun) and require similar equipment.
Your Technical Training SolutionThe Technical Diving International (TDI) diver training program is straight forward, proven effective and offers divers a comprehensive path from Intro to Tech™ to Advanced Trimix. Formed in 1994, TDI has built a reputation for a complete curriculum that includes cavern to full cave, decompression diving, trimix, and wreck penetration training. We also offer four levels of diver certifications on closed-circuit rebreathers to a depth of 100 metres or 330 feet. Round these offerings off with programs for gas blending and preparing equipment for oxygen service and the program selection is complete. Simply put, TDI is a one-stop technical training solution that you will not out-grow.
Applications to Suit All Conditions and EnvironmentsTechnical Diving International believes that local conditions demand local knowledge. While our programs are structured to deliver a solid understanding of technical diving and develop skills that are universally applicable, our instructors are encouraged to go beyond the minimum allowable to produce courses that account for, and that are tailored to, location specific environments. For example, diving in the North Atlantic may require a different approach than drift diving in the warm waters of Indonesia. Our training makes sure you are qualified as well as certified. Should you desire a career as a dive professional, TDI & Scuba Diving International (SDI) offer: Divemaster (DM), Assistant Instructor (AI), Instructor, IT Staff Instructor and Instructor Trainer (IT) at the professional level.
